Charles Lang operated a factory punch press but has built an engine that runs solely on distilled water.

In his attempt to patent his creation for the benefit of all people, he encounters ruthless people who want to use his naivete to steal his invention.

As Charles fights for his creation against overwhelming odds, we see the impact on the small individual being confronted by power-hungry corrupt human beings.

The Water Engine is unique because it was written to be performed both as a stage and radio play simultaneously.

The actors are supported by sound effects that are manufactured live during the play - reminiscent of the old radio shows.

The language and content make it one of the most interesting of Mamet's plays to people of all ages who are attempting to make progress in their own lives. It offers a feast for the eyes and ears.
